Local Procedures In The Vicinity of the  Airfield.

A private airstrip known as “Lakeview” has been developed 1.8nm north of ILAS airfield on the centreline of runway 36. Because of the proximity of Lakeview to ILAS in the interest of safety traffic patterns for both airfields have been introduced and updated. The risk of aerial collision is mitigated by these procedures being followed.

Lakeview Airfield.

Pilots visiting Lakeview Airfield should remain clear of the ILAS area of operation. All circuits are to the West of the runway and its extended centreline. The circuit pattern is Left hand for runway 07 and Right for runway 25. Observe the windsocks to determine the active runway by approaching the field at 1,500 ft from the north taking care not to cross the runway or its extended centreline. Descend to circuit height to the north of the airfield before joining downwind or base leg for the appropriate runway.

Pilots departing either runway at LAKEVIEW should climb ahead to 500 ft before turning West to remain clear of the traffic pattern of ILAS.

ILAS Airfield.

Pilots visiting ILAS Airfield should remain clear of the Lakeview area of operation.

Shared Radio Frequency.

As directed by the IAA we are sharing the Radio Frequency 123.75 with ILAS airfield and this is the frequency to be used by pilots operating in the vicinity of LAKEVIEW and ILAS airfields. Call “LAKEVIEW TRAFFIC “. Generally, no Air/Ground service is provided on 123.75. Pilots approaching Lakeview should self-announce their approach to the Airfield having received PPR in advance. Pilots should make standard traffic pattern calls adding the name of the airfield being visited. This makes other pilots in the area aware of your position and intentions.
RADIO PROCEDURE ON 123.75
Inbound traffic to both airstrips will make a contact call on 123.75 at least 5 minutes before the estimated time of arrival and clearly indicating which airstrip tyhey are intendint to land at.

Example: 123.75 this is EI-ABC inbound to Lakeview from Kilrush estimate the field at 55
Example: 123.75 this is EI-ABC inbound to ILAS from Kilrush estimate the field at 55
An air/ground service is generally only provided for fly in events.

Radio Failure Procedure.

Lakeview airfield is situated in class G airspace which does not require two-way RTF. Therefore, the radio failure procedure is simply to follow the standard traffic patterns maintaining a strong look out for other aircraft in the area.
